We’ve all dreamed of being a superhero. There are moments in life where we just want to be invisible, lift up and fly away or even teleport to another city. Imagine walking into a store full of products that will give you these superpowers. Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. is full of products like Speed of Light, Omnipotence, Gravity, Immortality and many more. The contents of these products are not revealed until they’re purchased, which seem to further pique people’s curiosities.

The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. has been a popular place among students, not only because of the sci-fi environment, but most importantly because of its hidden service that lives behind a shelving unit.Students enter into a backroom through what looks to be a shelving unit used as a door.

This backroom facilitates a variety of creative and expository writing services for students ages 6 to 18. With the intent of strengthening students’ writing skills- students can drop-in for one-to-one tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, English language support and assistance with student publications- all for free.

The teaching facility and services are funded by the proceeds made from the superhero products sold upfront.

By creating an imaginative environment that inspires and empowers students to take on challenges on their own and discover their own voice is a powerful service. The facility is staffed with volunteers who assist students willingly walking in for one-to-one learning- it is a powerful reality when people come together because everyone is inspired and driven to use their curiosities, passions and superpowers for a good purpose.
